Applying for passport in India - 2019 - Time lines, suggestions
Applied for passport for an Adult and minor on the same day at a sub-regional passport office.
You can apply for passport all by yourself online. There is no need for external agents help. Its quite simple and straight forward. For those who cannot do it, take help of your kids/neighbours/well wishers.
There is no need to go through brokers/agents to apply for passport as is the case of olden days. They have nothing to do in quickening the process , as self claimed by them. In fact you would end up with wrong information/details entry if gone through agents.

Below are the time lines it took for the delivery of passport.
Filled form Online and submitted application on 8th Mar, 2019 and paid the fee online.
Took appointment for 1 adult and 1 minor on 12th of mar, 2019 and got them at the same time slots.
Adult : Renewal of passport - 1500/- INR
12th Mar, 2019 : Document submission and verification at passport kendra/office. Pre police verification was allotted as there is change of address from previous passport.
12th Mar, 2019 : Police verification initiated on the same day.
12th Mar, 2019 : Police verification submitted on the same day, and status changed to below
"Police Report has been submitted by Commissioner of Police, District Tirupathi Urban and action for passport printing is initiated, to be followed by lamination, signing, quality check and dispatch. "
20th mar, 2019 : Status changed to below
"Passport application has been granted and Police Verification Report has been submitted. The applicant would receive an e-mail/sms once the passport is dispatched."
22nd Mar, 2019 :
"Passport XXXXXXX has been dispatched on 22/03/2019 via Speed Post Tracking Number PPXXXXXXXXXIN."
27th Mar, 2019 : passport delivered
12th Mar, 2019 : Police verification submitted on the same day, and status changed to below

20th mar, 2019 : Status changed to below

Minor : fresh passport - 900/- INR
12th Mar, 2019 : Document submission and verification at passport kendra/office.
Passport granted on the spot with out any verification.
12th Mar, 2019 : Status changed to
"Passport application has been granted to applicant on 12/03/2019 and the application is under processing. The applicant would receive an e-mail/sms once the passport is dispatched."
19th Mar, 2019 : Status updated to
"Passport has been printed and applicant would receive an sms/e-mail once the passport is dispatched."
20 Mar, 2019 : Passport XXXXXXXX has been dispatched on 20/03/2019 via Speed Post Tracking Number PPXXXXXXXXXIN.
22 Mar, 2019 : Passport delivered. ...
Things to note while applying for Minor :
Value added services at the passport seva kendra :
"Passport application has been granted to applicant on 12/03/2019 and the application is under processing. The applicant would receive an e-mail/sms once the passport is dispatched."

Things to note while applying for Minor :
- Address proof of parents can be submitted ,as in most cases minors don't have any address proof.
- Birth certificate is mandatory for minors born after 1989.
- Annexure D from both the parents , giving consent for minor passport.
- Passport photo of minor has to be taken outside preferably upto neck with white background. As they assumed kid will be moving and difficult to take the picture inside they asked us to go and get the photo from outside. So it's better to have kids passport photos in hand in case, so that you don't need to run around.
- In most of the cases minor's passport will be granted on the spot with out any police verification step (as in my case).
- If you feel that there is too much crowd and if you can't handle the kid, remind them that you have a minor and they will give you a priority token in the first token assigning place. the same applies for senior citizens as well.
Value added services at the passport seva kendra :
1. For those who are tech savvy, I suggest not to pay the SMS charges of 50/- as you can check the status online.The same status will be sent to your mobile as SMS for a charge of 50/- INR per applicant. Others can use the services as they are helpful and will be having the status delivered to your mobile directly for every change of status.
2. Protective passport cover : Again this is optional , and i would suggest people "DO NOT OPT" for this, those who have ability to search passport covers by themselves outside. For the same price you might get much better covers. Only people who cannot take time to search , can buy and pay the amount in 'A' (first) counters and the same will be dispatched to your registered address by TCS. there are 2 designs.
